Fortify Geotech’s Canberra team delivered expert geotechnical support for the landmark Garema Hotel project a multi-storey development featuring a five-level basement, approximately 15 metres deep. The basement was constructed below the groundwater table and in close proximity to existing commercial buildings, including a heritage-listed structure.

This complex site required a detailed and responsive approach, and Fortify was engaged to provide complete geotech services Garema Hotel development team could rely on. Our work included developing and implementing a tailored Geotechnical Instrumentation and Monitoring Plan, with inclinometers, groundwater data loggers, and vibration monitors to ensure excavation was carried out safely and with minimal impact to neighbouring structures.

A great example of how early geotechnical planning and monitoring supports safe basement construction in dense urban environments.
