Site Classifications

We currently undertake approximately 500 site classifications per year for knock down rebuilds, as well as for greenfield estate developments. Recent estate developments include Ginninderra Estate, which comprised about 150 standard and multi-unit lots. Other estate requiring civil works, roads, and infrastructure, and site classifications include: Conder, Gordon, Bonython, Bonner, Yerrabi Estate & Horse Park Estate (Gungahlin), Franklin, East O’Malley, Bruce, Elmslea Estate (Bungendore), Crace, Dunlop, Marys Mount (Goulburn), Ngunnawal, Nicholls, and Palmerston.

Site classification reports involve the investigation of subsurface conditions by using one or two boreholes drilled to about 1.4m depth as well as a dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) test if required. Subsurface conditions are visually logged by an experienced geotechnical engineer in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), and the hole/s immediately backfilled upon completion. The potential shrink-swell ground surface movement that may occur due to seasonal ground moisture changes, “Ys”, as defined by AS2870 for the range of extreme dry to extreme wet moisture conditions is the calculated.
